Get high on grass Next time you order a smoothie at the juice bar, get a shot of wheatgrass on the side. "Wheatgrass gives you a surge of alertness and energy, but it doesn't have the addictive effect that coffee has," says Erin Naimi, R.D., a consulting nutritionist in Beverly Hills, Calif. Chlorophyll-rich wheatgrass helps strengthen the liver, cleanse the blood of toxins, rev up circulation, and boost the immune system. While Naimi likes her juice straight up and followed by an orange-slice chaser, Berkeley, Calif.-based homeopath Dana Ullman, M.P.H., blends a heaping tablespoon of wheatgrass powder with fruit juice, yogurt, and fresh fruit. "When I start my day with a green-food smoothie, I eat a lighter breakfast, have more energy in the morning, and feel better all day long," he says.
